BGB maintains strict vigilance at border, destroys drugs worth Tk 1321 crore
Although drug smuggling continues at the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is maintaining strict vigilance to prevent it. After seizing a large amount of drugs in regular operations, the force destroyed drugs worth an estimated Tk 1,321 crore 90 lakh 59 thousand 116 in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday (August 13) afternoon.
The BGB said that these drugs were seized during operations in the Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban border areas in the past one year. The drugs destroyed include: 2 crore 33 thousand 949 pieces of Yaba, 140 kg 49 grams of crystal meth (ice), 61 thousand 491 cans of beer, 22 thousand 155 bottles of foreign liquor, 26 kg of heroin, 169 bottles of Phensidyl, 52 kg 800 grams of marijuana, 1,800 liters of Bengali liquor, 192 cans of Commando Energy Drink, 540 cans of Burmese Jorda, 4 kg 405 grams of cocaine, 2 bottles of whiskey, 3 lakh 37 thousand 642 packets of cigarettes and 4 kg of opium.
Cox’s Bazar Region Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Aksar Khan was present as the chief guest at the event organized at the training ground of the 34th Battalion of BGB. At that time, he said, ‘BGB is working tirelessly to eradicate drugs along with protecting the traditional border. Social resistance should be built in drug-prone areas by combining people of all classes and professions and public representatives.
He further urged that everyone should be vigilant so that no one gets any kind of cooperation from drug traffickers and smugglers.
Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Abu Saleh Mohammad Obaidullah, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Saifuddin Shaheen, Commander of RAB-15 Lt. Col. Kamrul Hasan, Additional District Magistrate Md. Shahidul Islam and Judge of the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Bandarban Namjul Islam were present at the event.
