Bangladeshi killed in Malaysia, 5 expatriates arrested
The country’s police have arrested five Bangladeshi nationals in connection with the murder of a Bangladeshi expatriate in Malaysia. Two women are among those arrested, according to a report by Malaysia’s Bernama news agency.
Shah Alam District Police Chief ACP Mohammad Iqbal Ibrahim told Bernama that five men aged 33 to 53, including the main suspect, were arrested in front of a grocery store at 1:49 pm on Saturday. The accused were arrested after receiving a call at 8:26 am on the same day. Meanwhile, the phone call also reported that a man had been attacked with a sharp weapon in front of the grocery store.
Police officer Iqbal said, “After receiving the information about the incident, the police and an ambulance from Shah Alam Hospital were sent to the scene. After examining the body of the man lying in front of the store, the medical officer confirmed that he died due to multiple injuries to the head, body and hands with a sharp weapon. Initial investigation revealed that the deceased was a 45-year-old Bangladeshi national. He worked as a supervisor in a grocery store.
Quoting several witnesses, Iqbal further said, “There was an argument between the supervisor and one of his employees inside the grocery store over the delay in paying salaries. At one point, it escalated into a fight and the supervisor was attacked with a meat cleaver. The employee kept hitting the supervisor repeatedly with the knife and he fell to the ground and died.”
The police officer said that the arrested suspects have no record of being involved in any previous criminal activities. Their drug tests also came back negative.
The suspects have been remanded for seven days from Sunday to February 21. He said the case is being investigated under Section 302 (murder) of the Criminal Code.
