Bangladesh-Pakistan foreign ministers’ meeting begins

A bilateral meeting between Bangladesh and Pakistan’s foreign ministers has been held. The meeting, which began at 10 am on Sunday (August 24) and lasted for about two hours, is expected to finalize six agreements and memorandums of understanding between the two countries. The memorandums of understanding include visa waiver for government and diplomatic passport holders of the two countries and the formation of a joint working group on trade. Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived at the capital’s Sonargaon Hotel in the morning for a meeting with Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain. Several agreements and memorandums of understanding are expected to be signed between the two countries after the meeting. Various bilateral issues including trade, investment, integration, agriculture, and facilitating the movement of people of the two countries at various levels are expected to be discussed in the Towhid-Dar meeting. Earlier, the Foreign Secretary welcomed the Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister at Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday (August 23) afternoon. It is also believed that issues such as Pakistan’s formal apology for the 1971 genocide and the share of resources taken from West Pakistan before the Liberation War may also be discussed.
