Bangladesh lost the ODI series by 7 wickets.
Bangladesh started the ODI series against the West Indies with a loss. So, the Tigers had no choice but to win the second match to keep the series alive. In such a match, the red-green representatives lost the series a match earlier with a big loss. The Caribbeans have won the series after 10 years by defeating Bangladesh by 7 wickets.
Caribbean captain Shai Hope won the toss and sent the Tigers into bat on Tuesday at Warner Park in Basseterre, St. Kitts. Bangladesh came out to bat and lost 3 wickets in the power play and were under pressure. Then, the visitors quickly lost 4 more wickets and were in trouble.
However, Bangladesh were all out for 227 runs in 45 overs and 5 balls in Mahmudullah Riyad’s fifty. Mahmudullah scored 62 runs in 92 balls. In addition, Tanjid Tamim scored 46 runs in 33 balls and Tanjim Shakib scored 45 runs in 62 balls. Jayden Seals took 4 wickets against the West Indies.
The two West Indies openers, Brandon King and Evin Lewis, put on a 109-run partnership to win the series. The opening pair of these two batsmen scored 109 runs in an aggressive batting. Evin Lewis was dismissed by Rishad Hossain for 49 runs off 62 balls.
Then King kept the run wheel moving with Kasi Karthi who came to the crease. He continued to bat aggressively after scoring a fifty. However, King was dismissed for 82 runs off 76 balls for the team’s 175 runs.
Carthi continued to bat with Shai Hope. Carthi was dismissed for 45 runs off 47 balls for the team’s 195 runs. After his departure, Hope left the field with Sherfan Rutherford who came to the crease and secured the victory with 79 balls in hand. Rutherford remained unbeaten on 24 off 15 balls and Hope remained unbeaten on 17 off 21 balls.
Bangladesh had won the series four times in the four matches against the West Indies since 2014. However, Miraj’s team could not maintain that dominance this time due to the batting failure of the top order and middle order.
