Ballon d’Or in the hands of Spanish footballer Rodri
A long time has come to an end. Manchester City’s Spanish defensive midfielder Rodri won the 2024 Ballon d’Or award.
After 64 years, this award was won by a Spaniard in boys’ football. And the 28-year-old star won this award as the first player in the history of Manchester City.
Rodri received the prestigious award in a grand ceremony at the Theater du Châtelet in Paris on Monday night Bangladesh time. The trophy was presented to him by the legendary George Wiah, the only African footballer to win the Ballon d’Or.
The 28-year-old defensive midfielder is currently sidelined with an ACL injury. He climbed the stage on crutches to receive the Ballon d’Or.
Notably, the world’s most prestigious individual award for footballers is now the Ballon d’Or. This award is given by the football magazine ‘France Football’. It started its journey in 1956. This is the 68th Ballon d’Or ceremony. Over time, it has become football’s highest award at an individual level.
