A Balaka commuter passenger train caught fire in Mymensingh. Train services on the Mymensingh-Netrokona line were suspended for two hours. The incident occurred at around 10:30 am today, Tuesday (November 11) in the Raghabpur area between Shambhuganj in Mymensingh Sadar and Biska station.
Balaka train booking clerk Md. Alam Mia confirmed the matter and said that the Balaka commuter passenger train that left Dhaka was heading towards Jaria in Netrokona. As soon as it reached the Raghabpur area between Shambhuganj and Biska station in Mymensingh Sadar at around 10:30 am, the train’s engine suddenly developed a mechanical fault. The engine stopped and the train services were stopped. At that time, heavy smoke started coming out and the passengers panicked and quickly got off the train. This caused train services on the Netrokona line to be suspended for two hours.
Morsheduzzaman, RNB in-charge of Gouripur Railway Junction, said there were no casualties in the incident. The train was started with an alternative engine. Train movement returned to normal after two hours.
