Bangladesh Football Federation (BAFFE) elections will be held today on October 26 at a hotel in the capital. There is a lot of interest in this election among football fans.
However, it is already clear who will be the new president of BAF after Kazi Salahuddin’s 16-year football rule. Kazi Salahuddin wanted to become BAUF president for the fifth time in a row. But after the change of government, this hope was not fulfilled. He announced to withdraw from the election.
Today is Saturday, Salahuddin’s last working day. From then on, this legendary footballer will be a thing of the past. Before the election, Salahuddin took a formal leave from the Buffe workers. As a result of his departure, after 16 consecutive years, BAFFE is going to get a new president through elections.
Tabith Awal has been nominated for the post of president. In the past, this former footballer and organizer has served two terms as the vice-president of BAFF. In the last election as well, Tabith lost to Mohiuddin Mahi after a tough fight as a candidate for the post of Vice President. But this time he directly became the presidential candidate. There is another candidate for president.
He is not a known face in the country’s football. A BAFF who works with Trinamool football in Dinajpur has become a candidate for the post of president. His name is AFM Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury. Although he is a presidential candidate, he is not in the discussion. Tabith Awal is far ahead as the new president. There is no possibility of fighting in this post.
Meanwhile, there is no fight for the post of senior vice president. There were two candidates for this position. Imrul Hasan is the current Vice President of the Executive Committee and President of Bashundhara Kings. Another is – businessman Tarfdar Ruhul Amin. But at the last minute Tarfdar withdrew his name. As a result, Imrul Hasan was elected unopposed. On the other hand, a total of 6 candidates are fighting for the four vice-president posts. They are – Fahad Mohammad Ahmed Karim, Md. Wahid Uddin Chowdhury (Happy), Md. Nasser Shahriar Zahedi, Md. Shafiqul Islam Manik, Sabbir Ahmed Aref and Syed Rumman bin Wali Sabbir. There will be a fight between them.
On the other hand, the fight for 15 member posts can be an added attraction to the election. Because a total of 37 people are fighting for this post. Former footballers Satyajit Das Rupu, Chaid Hasan Kanan, Iqbal Hossain, Saifur Rahman Mani, Gauss, head of BAFF women’s wing Mahfuza Akhter Kiran, former women’s footballer Mahmuda Khatun Aditira are expected to be elected.
A total of 133 councilors will cast their votes in this election. They will select the candidates for the remaining 20 posts except the senior vice president. In this election, 2 representatives from FIFA and 1 representative from AFC are staying as observers. Meanwhile, representatives of FIFA and AFC have arrived in Dhaka. From 2008 to 2020, Mejbah Uddin served as the Chief Election Commissioner in Buffe elections. He is the Chief Election Commissioner in this election as well.
