Former President Badruddoza Chowdhury is no more.
Former President Professor Dr. AQM Baruddozza Chowdhury (94) passed away (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun).
He died on Friday around 3:30 pm while undergoing treatment at the Women’s Medical College Hospital in the capital. He was hospitalized with a lung infection.
Badruddoza Chowdhury was admitted to Uttara Mahila Medical College Hospital on October 2. He died on Friday.
Professor Badruddoza Chowdhury was elected President on 14 November 2001. He resigned from the post of President on June 21, 2002 due to political reasons.

Badruddoza Chowdhury started politics in 1978 at the request of Major General Ziaur Rahman. He was first elected Member of Parliament from Srinagar, Munshiganj in 1979 and served as a Cabinet Minister. He was elected Member of Parliament for the second time in 1991 and became first Minister of Education and then Deputy Leader of Parliament. In 1996, he served as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Parliament. He was finally re-elected Member of Parliament in 2001 and was the Foreign Minister in the BNP government led by Begum Khaleda Zia from October to November of the same year.
The former president founded a political party called Aksapanthara Bangladesh on May 8, 2004. He was serving as the president of the party until his death.
