Bad news in England camp ahead of Champions Trophy
There are less than ten days left for the Champions Trophy. At this time, bad news has come from the England camp. Young English all-rounder Jacob Bethell is being ruled out of the Champions Trophy squad due to injury.
England is playing a warm-up match against India as a preparation for the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan and Dubai. Bethell performed well in the first ODI of the series against India, but could not play in the second match due to a hamstring injury. This time, England captain Jos Buttler gave even worse news.
After the 4-wicket loss against India in the second ODI on Sunday, Buttler confirmed, ‘I’m pretty sure; to be honest, he (Bethell) is out of the Champions Trophy….It’s really disappointing for him. Of course, he played well the other day (in the first ODI) and he is a player with great potential. So, it is very unfortunate that he has been ruled out due to injury.’
The 21-year-old Bethell scored a half-century in the first ODI against India. He also took one wicket with the ball. Despite his young age, Bethell has made his debut for England in all three editions. So it will be a big blow not to have him in the Champions Trophy.
The final squad for the Champions Trophy is to be announced by next Wednesday. In the meantime, batter Tom Banton has been called up in place of Bethell. The Champions Trophy will begin on February 19. And England’s campaign will begin on February 22, against Australia.
