Auto-rickshaw-motorcycle collision in the capital, 2 dead
Two people, including a student, were killed in a head-on collision between a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle on the Malibagh-Mouchak flyover in the capital. One person was injured. The accident occurred at around 6 am on Thursday (January 1) in the Mouchak section of the Mouchak flyover. The deceased have been identified as auto-rickshaw driver Nayan Talukder (70) and motorcycle rider Yasin Arafat Ashiq (21).
Confirming the matter, Ramna Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Sushanta Kumar Khan told us that a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle collided head-on at the crossing adjacent to Fortune Market on the Mouchak flyover in the early morning. Both the auto-rickshaw and the motorcycle were twisted. He added that initially, after receiving information that they were injured, they were rescued and taken to the hospital. However, after tests, doctors declared both of them dead. The bodies of the deceased have been kept at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Jahangir Alam, the uncle of the deceased student, said that Yasin Arafat had gone out for a ride on a motorcycle with his friend last night. Later, he got news that they had met with a road accident. Later, he went to the hospital and found him dead. Yasin was studying at North South University. Their home is in Mugda area. His father’s name is Jahirul Islam.
Babul Talukder, the son of the deceased CNG autorickshaw driver, said that his father had gone out in a CNG autorickshaw in the morning and later got news from the hospital that his father had met with a road accident. When he reached the hospital, he saw his body. His village home is in Magra village of Kalihati upazila of Tangail. Currently, he lives with his family in Dhalpur of Jatrabari.
