Attempt to remove Hasina’s graffiti at midnight.
The City Corporation tried to remove the graffiti on former prime minister Sheikh Hasina with satire at midnight from the metro rail pillar adjacent to Raju sculpture of Dhaka University or DU. Then students come to know about that and stopped it. This incident has outraged the students and they poured their anger on social media.
Students said that at 2 am, the City Corporation people went to remove the graffiti of Sheikh Hasina satirically.
At the time, they removed the partial face of Sheikh Hasina’s graffiti. Later, due to the resistance of the students, it was not possible to completely remove it. After that, the students re-painted Sheikh Hasina’s graffiti there.
According to the Facebook page of the DU branch of the Students’ Union, the portrait of Sheikh Hasina has been redrawn in this graffiti named ‘Hate Pillar’ as a protest against the anti-democratic policy of the Awami League government.
The graffiti was done by Mridha Rayan and Rishi members of the Fine Arts Faculty of the Students’ Union. Rayan Ferdous and Sardar Nadim Mahmud Shuvo were with them.
No official statement was received from the university administration and the City Corporation on this matter.
Syed Abdullah, a former student of the Law Department of Dhaka University, wrote on the issue: “This graffiti was being removed from the metro rail pillar in front of the Raju sculpture of Dhaka University late last night. As soon as we got the news, a few of us immediately went online late at night. After that was removed, some people later drew another caricature of Hasina.
But the point is why do it differently? It will be the same as before, exactly the same as before, and on that too the D-E-N type vive should be placed with ink, red like blood, and the shoe garland should be placed in the same way. This means it has to be exactly restored. The message that was in that one is not in the new one. It was an auto-representation to that one where the people of the country rejected and overthrew Hasina in the mass uprising.
And those who hatched a plan to wipe this out in a rush or their brains conceived such a plot, all must be identified and taken sternly to task.
From which organization came this order? This was a work done by bringing a large technical vehicle inside the campus, which means that it is supposed to have the affiliation of the VC or proctor with the permission of this. That is to say, it should be said from any agency, and the proctor or VC who resists this should be brought to strict accountability. We need to understand what they are trying to achieve by removing the signs against the denial of the dictator Hasina.
And in the meantime, the picture of Hasina which was rejected with that lace around her neck needs to be revealed at different spots. The more you would try erasing it; the more you have to expose everywhere.
They will want to erase the graffiti from various places; after that, they will want to erase the memory of those misdeeds from the minds of the people of the country.
But we will not allow it to happen. Under no circumstances should the people of the country let that happen!
