Assam Rifles camp attacked in Manipur.

Locals attacked the Assam Rifles camp of the Assam Rifles, a paramilitary force under the control of the central government in Manipur, India. They vandalized the temporary camp yesterday, alleging harassment by the locals.

India’s state news agency PTI reported that some locals were cutting wood to build houses in the Hongbei area on Saturday. Assam Rifles soldiers stopped their vehicles loaded with wood. As soon as the news spread, hundreds of people attacked the Rifles’ temporary camp in Hongbei and vandalized, looted and set it on fire.

Assam Rifles members were able to disperse the agitated crowd by firing tear gas shells and blank bullets at one point. There were no casualties in the attack.
