Argument over rice, younger brother killed by elder brother
In Maheshpur, Jhenaidah, a younger brother was stabbed to death by his elder brother over an argument over rice. The incident took place at around 11:30 am on Monday (July 25) in Palianpur village of Kazirber union of the upazila. The deceased has been identified as Jamal Hossain (21). He is the son of Mozammel Hossain of Palianpur village. Local UP member Hazrat Ali said that there was an argument between the two brothers over rice in the morning. At one stage, elder brother Ujjal Hossain hit Jamal on the chest with a knife in his hand. He was seriously injured. He was rushed to a local clinic where the doctor on duty declared him dead. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Maheshpur Police Station Sajjad Hossain said, “There was a dispute between the two brothers over a family matter. At one stage of the argument over rice on Monday morning, Ujjal stabbed his younger brother Jamal.” He later fled. The body of the deceased has been sent to the Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.’ The OC said that Ujjal was a hawker by profession. He used to sell jhalmuri, guava and amra. He always had a sharp knife with him, which was used in the murder. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
