Any attempt to damage ties with India will fail: Russia

India has praised its long-standing ties with India. It has also warned that any attempt to damage these ties will be ‘failed’. The Russian Foreign Ministry has welcomed India’s commitment to continue cooperation, NDTV reported. The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement to RT, ‘Honestly, it is difficult to imagine anything else. Russia-India relations are moving forward steadily and confidently. Any attempt to disrupt this process is inevitable. According to the ministry, India’s approach to relations with Russia is not only a ‘reflection of the spirit and traditions of long-standing Russia-India friendship’ but also a reflection of their ‘strategic autonomy’ in international affairs. They described the Russia-India partnership as ‘reliable, predictable and strategic’, based on the ‘supreme values of sovereignty and the priority of national interests’. Russian Foreign Ministry officials also said that Russia and India are working on a wide range of joint projects in various fields, including civil and military production, manned space missions, nuclear energy and Indian investment in oil exploration projects in Russia. They also noted that the two countries are cooperating to increase the use of national currencies, introduce alternative payment systems and create new transport and supply routes. The Russian Foreign Ministry’s comments come as the United States has called on G-7 countries to impose tariffs on India and other countries that buy oil from Russia. Trump’s additional 25 percent tariff on Indian imports took effect on August 27, bringing the total tariff to 50 percent. The additional penalties have worsened relations between the long-time allies, the United States and India, as Trump himself admitted. Amid this situation, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sincerity to Russian President Vladimir Putin by attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, earlier this month, reflecting the unity of the two countries. PM Modi also shared a picture of himself shaking hands and hugging with Putin on X (formerly Twitter).
