This information was reported in the Indian media The Hindu on Sunday.

13,400 polling stations in 22 constituencies of Sri Lanka yesterday voted for the presidential election. This is the first presidential election in Sri Lanka after the fall of Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s government in a popular coup. Voting began at 7 am local time on Saturday. It ends at four in the afternoon. Meanwhile, a curfew was announced in Sri Lanka on Saturday night after the end of voting

According to the police, they have issued an eight-hour curfew in the interest of public safety.

Anura Kumar (56) is ahead of Sri Lanka’s main opposition leader Sajith Premadasa and current president Ranil Wickremesinghe, The Hindu reported.

As a result of polling in seven constituencies, it can be seen that Anura got 56 percent votes. And his rivals got 19 percent votes.

Analysts believe that Anura Kumar won by getting more than 50 percent of the votes.

About 75 percent of the Indian Ocean island nation’s 1.7 million voters exercised their franchise in Saturday’s election, according to Election Commission data. Dissanayake is contesting this election as a candidate of the National People’s Power (NPP) alliance. Including his Marxist-leaning Janata Vimukti Peremuna (JPV) party. This party has traditionally supported stronger state intervention, lower taxes and stricter market economic policies.
