Another wild elephant dies in Chakaria
Another wild elephant has died in Chakaria Upazila of Cox’s Bazar. On Wednesday, February 12, the forest department rescued the dead elephant from a tobacco field in the Abuler Ghona area of Dakshin Ghunia, Fhaniakhali Bit, Fhaniakhali Range of Cox’s Bazar North Forest Division.
Fhaniakhali Range Officer of the forest department Md. Mehraj Uddin confirmed this information.
He said, “In the morning, I came to know through local people that a wild elephant was lying dead. After receiving this news, I went to the spot. The elephant is a male of the Asian species. Its age is approximately 40 to 42 years.”
Stating that there were no injury marks on the body of the dead elephant, he added, “A veterinary surgeon is coming to conduct an autopsy to unravel the mystery of how the elephant died.” The real cause of death can be confirmed after receiving the autopsy report.’
In this regard, Montakim Billah, veterinary surgeon of Chakaria Livestock Hospital and Veterinary Hospital, said, ‘The autopsy of the dead elephant is underway. Samples of various internal organs are being collected to reveal the cause of death. The cause of death will be known after receiving the autopsy report.’
A farmer named Faridul Alam Putu Mia died after being attacked by an elephant in the Bichainnarchhara area of Kumari, Phansiakhali Union, Lama Upazila, bordering Phansiakhali in Chakaria Upazila, one kilometer away from the incident site on January 7 this year. A mother elephant also died after being touched by an electric wire in his tobacco field.
