Amu’s lawyer beat him by commenting ‘PP’s speech is political’

Awami League advisory council member and former minister Amir Hossain Amur’s lawyer was beaten up by the lawyers for commenting on Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor (PP) Omar Farooq Farooqui’s political speech during the remand hearing. The beaten up lawyer’s name is Swapan Roy Chowdhury.

This incident took place during the hearing of Amur’s 10-day remand application in the case of the murder of businessman Abdul Wadud in the capital’s Newmarket area during the anti-discrimination student movement at around 11:30 on Thursday.

On this day, the investigating officer of the case, Police Inspector Jahangir Arif of the Ramna Zonal Team of the DB Police applied for a 10-day remand. During the hearing, along with the investigating officer, the state’s Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Farooq Farooqui gave a long speech regarding Amur’s misdeeds in the hearing on behalf of the remand grant.

Farooqi said in the hearing that Amir Hossain Amu is a member and coordinator of the advisory committee of 14 parties.
