Ambassadors and expatriates attend Khaleda Zia’s funeral in Italy, prayers and supplications
The funeral of three-time former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was held in Rome, Italy. The funeral was held at the TMC Mosque in Rome, a Bangladeshi-dominated city, on Wednesday (December 31) at 9 am local time at the initiative of the BNP in Italy. Bangladesh Ambassador to Italy ATM Rakibul Haque, BNP Chairperson’s Foreign Affairs Advisory Council member Dhali Nasir Uddin, leaders and activists of Italy BNP and its affiliates and associate organizations participated in the funeral.
In addition, a large number of expatriate Bangladeshi devotees attended the funeral. After the funeral, the devotees prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased’s soul and remembered her long and influential role in Bangladeshi politics with deep respect. On the other hand, a one-day official holiday has been declared at the Bangladesh Embassy in Italy following Khaleda Zia’s death. The Bangladesh government is observing three days of state mourning.
Khaleda Zia died on Tuesday (December 30) at Evercare Hospital after 37 days of treatment. She was 80 years old at the time of her death. Khaleda Zia was known as one of the most popular leaders in Bangladeshi politics. She served as the country’s prime minister three times and was considered an important symbol of female leadership in South Asian politics.
