The election campaign began today (January 22) after the allocation of symbols to the competing candidates for the upcoming 13th National Parliament election. Through this, the parliamentary election is basically going on in the field. However, before the light of day broke on the first day of the campaign, there have been allegations of burning and tearing of banners and festoons of the scales.
The incident took place in Ward No. 9 of Baliadanga Union and Nawabganj Municipality area of ​​​​Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila on Wednesday night. Nurul Islam Bulbul, the Jamaat-nominated candidate for Chapainawabganj-3 Sadar constituency, alleged, “The workers and supporters of the opposing candidate did this in a planned manner.” He also said that a complaint will be filed with the Returning Officer regarding the matter.
On the other hand, BNP candidate Harunur Rashid denied the allegations, saying, “Tearing or burning posters is not part of BNP’s politics. And allegations should not be made; the truth of these matters must be confirmed.” Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner’s spokesperson, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Naqib Hossain, said, “If specific allegations are found, an investigation will be conducted and legal action will be taken.”
