Allegations against Sheikh Hasina in tribunal
Another complaint has been filed at the International Crimes Tribunal against the head of the fallen Awami League government, Sheikh Hasina, her cabinet members, former MPs and top leaders of the Awami League, and two more cases have been filed at the CMM Court in Dhaka and Zorarganj Police Station in Mirsarai Upazila of Chittagong.
The number of accused in these complaints and cases is 323. Of these, 44 people, including Sheikh Hasina, have been charged with genocide and crimes against humanity in the International Crimes Tribunal for the murder of BUET student Rehan Ahsan at Shapla Square in the capital on May 5, 2013. They have been charged with genocide and crimes against humanity. Yesterday, lawyer SM Tasmirul Islam filed the complaint on behalf of Rehan’s mother Iffat Ara. Iffat Ara was also present at the time. In addition, the family has filed another case against Hasina and 129 people in connection with the shooting death of a small businessman named Jalal Uddin during the anti-discrimination student movement. And on Wednesday, a case was filed by Md. Yusuf Mia, a Jubo League activist from Katachara Union of the upazila, against 20 named and 30 unknown people, including Awami League presidium member and former Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, his eldest son Sabedur Rahman Sasu, at the Zorarganj police station on charges of attack with intent to kill.
Meanwhile, despite the instructions of the IG of Police, the Hefazat has alleged that innocent people are being harassed in the cases filed at the Adabor police station in the capital and Savar police station in Dhaka. Expressing deep concern over the litigation surrounding the anti-discrimination student-public movement, the party has said that if such a situation continues, they will take to the streets. They have also announced to launch a tough movement. They allege that an attempt is being made to arrest the Naib-e-Amir of Dhaka District North Hefazat, Hafez Maulana Nur Mohammad, in a harassment case. A memorandum has been submitted to the upazila administration and district police officials in protest.
On the other hand, the law enforcement agencies have arrested 11 leaders, including activists of the Awami League, Jubo League, Sramik League, Swechchhasebak League and Jubo Dal, on various charges including attacks and murders during the anti-Baidham student-public movement and attacks and arson at the police station.
Rehan Ahsan, who was killed in Shapla Chattar, was the son of businessman AKM Mamun Ahsan of Madhyapara Mohalla in Naogaon city and a third-year student of the Computer Science Department of BUET. His mother Iffat Ara said that after his death, Rehan’s friends said that they had gone to see the scuffle between the police and Hefazat supporters. And Rehan was killed there. I did not have the courage to complain about this until now.
Advocate Tasmirul said that due to pressure from the administration and the Awami League government, they could not bring the matter to the public until now. Apart from Sheikh Hasina, the accused include her former security advisor Tarek Siddiqui, former home minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, former IGP, RAB director general, and DMP commissioner.
Meanwhile, Jalal Uddin’s wife Molly filed a case in Dhaka’s CMM court last Thursday. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Belal Hossain ordered Mugda Police Station to accept the complaint as a complaint. Notable accused are Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, Hasan Mahmud, Anisul Haque, Junaid Ahmed Palak, Mohammad Ali Arafat, Shajahan Khan, Kamrul Islam, Kazi Firoz Rashid, Sayeed Khokon, Kazi Najibullah Hiru, Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and IG Syed Nurul Islam. On the evening of July 20, during the anti-discrimination movement, police, Chhatra League and Awami League clashed with students and the public in the Maniknagar area under Mugda Police Station in the capital. At that time, Jalal Uddin was shot in the head while selling chickpeas and matha on the sidewalk and died on the spot.
Mirsarai (Chittagong) correspondent said that on February 12, 2022, Jubo League activist Md. Yusuf was attacked with the intention of killing him. The plaintiff mentioned in the statement that the attack was carried out on the orders of Engineer Mosharraf Hossain. The plaintiff Md. Yusuf Mia said that despite being active in politics when the Awami League was in power, he became an accused in 7 cases due to party conflicts. The cases were filed on the orders of Engineer Mosharraf Hossain. He is currently on bail in all but 1 of the remaining cases.
Our correspondent from Savar said that the police arrested five people, including a Sramik League leader, in Ashulia yesterday in connection with the indiscriminate shooting and killing during the anti-discrimination student movement. One of them is Akbar Hossain Mridha. He is the president of the Ashulia regional committee of the Sramik League. He is the son of the deceased Altaf Hossain of Jamgara area. The other arrested are Md. Rabiul Shahin Bhuiyan, Ripon Mahmud, Imran Hossain and Masum Rana.
Akhaura (Brahmanbaria) correspondent said that Nantu Kumar Kar, a leader of the Chittagong Bandar Thana Swechchhasebak League, accused in the case of vandalism and arson at the Chittagong Port during the anti-discrimination student movement, was fleeing to India through the Akhaura International Immigration Checkpost. He was arrested by the BGB at around 1 pm yesterday. Nantu Kumar Kar is the son of Suchindra Kar, a resident of Daulatpur Karpara in Patiya Upazila of Chittagong.
Faridpur correspondent said that the police arrested Mehedi Hasan Shamim Talukder, joint convener of the district Jubo League, in a case of attack on the anti-discrimination student movement in Faridpur. A team of the District Detective Branch (DB) arrested him from his house in Kamalapur in the city around 5:30 pm last Saturday. Shamim Talukder is a follower of Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury Nixon, a former MP from Faridpur-4 (Bhanga-Sadarpur-Charbhadrasan) constituency and a member of the presidium of the central Jubo League.
The Chittagong bureau chief said that the police arrested a young man named Md. Parvez on charges of assault, vandalism, arson and looting at the Pahartali police station in the city. A single-barrel gun was recovered from him. Parvez is involved in the politics of the local Jubo Dal. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of the city police, Kazi Md. Tarek Aziz, said that the Pahartali police arrested Parvez from the city’s Signal intersection on Saturday morning. Later, on his information, the single-barrel gun was recovered by digging the ground next to a building in the city’s Haji Camp area around 8:45 pm.
