Airport fire causes loss of Tk 12,000 crore: EAB

The Bangladesh Exporters Association (EAB) has claimed that a fire at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport has caused a loss of Tk 12,000 crore.
The organization’s president, Mohammad Hatem, made this claim at a press conference at Hotel Sonargaon in the capital on Monday (October 20).
He said that traders are concerned about the fire at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. This has exposed the widespread weakness of the security system. The incident has initially caused a loss of Tk 12,000 crore.
He also said that we are demanding the speedy settlement of insurance claims for products damaged in the fire. A special government fund should be formed to ensure compensation and assistance for uninsured products.
The EAB president said that 32 pharmaceutical companies have suffered a loss of Tk 200 crore in the fire. This loss may increase further.
It is worth noting that a terrible fire broke out at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport last Saturday (October 18). The fire was brought under control after seven and a half hours of efforts by the Fire Service, Army, Navy, Air Force and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
