Agrani Girls School and College student dies after drowning in Eden pond

A college student named Sanjida Akhtar (18) has died after drowning in the pond of Eden College. She was a second-year student of Azimpur Agrani Girls School and College.

The incident took place on Monday (June 16) at around 10 am. She was rescued in a life-threatening condition and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead at around 11:30 am.

Mohana Islam, a student of the finance department of Eden, who brought her to the hospital, said that Sanjida’s house is in the Champatoli area of ​​Chawkbazar in Old Dhaka. Mohana taught her at home. This morning, they communicated over the phone and left the house together. The intention was for both of them to learn swimming in the pond of Eden College.

She also said that according to that plan, both of them entered Eden College and went into the pond. While taking a bath while standing on the steps of the pond, Sanjida slipped and drowned in deep water. Then, on hearing Mohana’s screams, the students and staff nearby came and pulled him out of the water. He was then immediately taken to the hospital. However, the doctor declared him dead. Dhaka Medical Police Camp In-charge (Inspector) Md. Faruk confirmed the death and said that the student’s body has been kept in the morgue. The incident has been reported to the concerned police station.
