Agencies can send pilgrims directly if there are 1,000: Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Saudi Arabia has set the minimum quota for agencies to send pilgrims directly. This time, agencies can send pilgrims directly for Hajj if there are at least 1,000 pilgrims. The Ministry of Religious Affairs published this notification on the Hajj portal. It says that on December 9, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah informed Bangladesh of this information through a letter.
Last year, the quota per agency to send pilgrims directly for Hajj was reduced to 250. This year too, the owners of Hajj agencies demanded that the minimum quota be increased to 250.
The notification also says that in light of this decision by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, Religious Affairs Advisor AFM Khalid Hossain gave two semi-official letters to the Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah regarding increasing the minimum quota of pilgrims per agency to 250 first and then to 500. But the specific committee of the Saudi Hajj and Umrah Ministry did not agree to reduce the quota of pilgrims.
In this situation, the Ministry of Religion held a meeting with the agencies conducting Hajj last Saturday. In the meeting, the agencies sought the cooperation of the Chief Advisor on reducing the quota of pilgrims. The Religious Advisor met with the Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus last Monday to inform him of the matter. At that time, the Chief Advisor’s Principal Secretary M Siraj Uddin Mia and Religious Secretary AKM Aftab Hossain Pramanik were present.
The holy Hajj will be held on June 5, subject to the sighting of the moon. Like last year, 127,198 people from Bangladesh will be able to perform Hajj. Of these, 10,198 pilgrims will go under government management and 117,000 pilgrims will go under private management.
