‘Advisors will not be able to contest elections’

Some advisors of the interim government have expressed interest in running for office. Some have shown this interest on their own initiative, while in some cases this interest has been expressed through their family members and the National Citizens Alliance has formed a human chain and protested against the advisors contesting in the upcoming elections. The alliance made this demand at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building at 11 am today, Tuesday (October 28).
In the human chain, the alliance said that they will submit a memorandum to the National Consensus Commission to restore democracy, restore voting rights, sustainable people-friendly reforms, repeal repressive black laws and ensure accountability in the interim government.
Green Party President Raju Ahmed Khan said in the human chain, we want the advisors to arrange a fair and beautiful election. A specific date should be announced for the elections desired by the people.
Social Welfare Council President Gias Uddin Khokon said, we have been struggling for a long time with the demands of the people. According to that demand, we are calling on the interim government to quickly announce the election date. We have seen that various conspiracies are working as soon as the election comes. Those who are in the advisory council will not be able to participate in the election in any way. Now is the time for the common man to exercise his right to vote.
Janatar Odhikar Party President Tariqul Islam Bhuiyan said, they are fulfilling their duty by standing on the blood of students and the public in the July uprising. But they have completely failed. We do not want these advisors to tarnish the parliament like the Awami League in the future.
Desh Bachao Manush Bachao Andolan President KM Rakibul Islam Ripon said, the advisors who are interested in participating in the election are as corrupt as Sheikh Hasina. We are saying that the advisors will not be able to participate in the election. Because they have looted thousands of crores of taka in the last one year. They will use this black money in the election. All the information about their corruption is with the public. This demand is not the demand of any individual or organization, it is the demand of the people.
Aam Janata Dal General Secretary Md. Tarique Rahman said, advisors will not be able to participate in the elections. You may be thinking that the student advisors who led the July coup should be allowed to participate in the elections. But what seems like today may not be tomorrow. The advisors have planned to hold elections with government money. They have allocated 400 crore taka in an upazila to hold the elections.
He said, I want to tell the chief advisor, you have formed a government of brothers. You have formed advisors for specific areas. The defectors will hold elections. They will go to parliament. Since all these advisors are interested in the elections, it is understood that they have prepared that amount of sugarcane. Those who have shown interest in the elections should be immediately expelled from the advisory council.
He said, we will submit a memorandum to the consensus commission today. For this reason, the commission has done a lot of research on what the next government will do, but they have nothing to do with what the interim government will do. After the human chain, the alliance leaders entered the office of the Unity Commission through Gate No. 6 of the Parliament Building with a protest march to submit a memorandum.
