Adulterated baby food seized in Shibchar, 2 sentenced to prison
A mobile court has seized a large quantity of fake and adulterated baby food in Shibchar, Madaripur. Later, all the seized baby food was burned and destroyed. Meanwhile, a mobile court has sentenced a food manufacturing factory owner named Ramzan Bepari (20) from the area to one month in prison and another person named Russell Molla (35) from the second section of the upazila to 7 days in prison on charges of selling fake cigarettes. Later, the seized adulterated baby food and fake products were destroyed.
It is known that a gang is manufacturing various types of adulterated baby food by setting up a factory in Sheikhpur Bazar of Banshkandi Union of Shibchar Upazila. In that factory, the gang is manufacturing fake and adulterated chips, soft drinks, juices, ice cream and other delicious foods for children in the style of chips of various renowned companies and selling them in the market.
These food items do not have any BSTI approval. Based on a tip-off, a team led by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shaikha Sultana conducted a raid there on Monday (February 16) afternoon. At that time, one person was arrested along with adulterated baby food. Later, according to the information given by her, when a raid was conducted at another place in the market, the mobile court seized a huge quantity of fake, adulterated baby food and raw materials. Along with the baby food, fake cigarettes were also seized at that time. Later, they were burnt and destroyed. Executive Magistrate of the mobile court Shaikha Sultana said, ‘Based on a tip-off, a huge quantity of fake and adulterated baby food and fake cigarettes were seized from that market. All these products were being manufactured and packaged there. Moreover, they were supplying fake products in the packaging of famous companies besides Bombay Sweets. At that time, we arrested the two involved and sentenced them to different terms. At the same time, the fake and adulterated products were burnt and destroyed. We will continue such raids.’
