Acute fuel crisis in Natore, long queues at pumps
The acute fuel crisis in Natore is not abating. Since Tuesday morning (April 7), long queues of motorcyclists have been seen at various filling stations in the district, ignoring the scorching sun and heat. Common people have been waiting for hours for octane and petrol.
At various pumps in the city and upazila, long queues of vehicles have been seen going beyond the pump boundaries and reaching the main roads. To control the situation, many filling stations are checking the registration number and driving license of the vehicle and supplying fuel under the ‘rationing’ method. Meanwhile, farmers are also facing problems due to the diesel crisis; they are worried about the upcoming harvest as irrigation work has been disrupted.
And due to this fuel glut, unpleasant incidents are happening at the pumps almost every day. Yesterday, Monday, a fight broke out between two parties over buying petrol in bottles at the ‘Chalanbil Filling Station’ in Gurdaspur, Natore. Standing in line and fighting over the amount of fuel has now become a regular scene.
Customers said they were suffering due to insufficient supply. Locals demanded that the administration increase surveillance.
