ACC investigating allegations of paying Tk 100 crore bribe to Transcom CEO Sheikh Hasina

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started investigating allegations that Transcom Group CEO Simin Rahman paid a ‘Tk 100 crore bribe’ to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Recently, the agency’s Deputy Director AKM Mahbubur Rahman has been given the responsibility of investigating the allegations. The ACC has also started an investigation into the matter, said a concerned official.
The ACC alleged that the Transcom Group CEO paid a ‘Tk 100 crore bribe’ to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to cover up multiple cases of ‘murder, share fraud and cheating’ against them. The letter also asked the concerned official to be informed in writing if any bank account needs to be blocked or assets seized as part of the investigation.
Earlier, his younger sister Shazreh Haque had accused Transcom Group CEO Simin Rahman of killing her brother. Later, a total of 11 people, including elder sister Simin Rahman and her son – Zarif Ayat Hossain, head of transformation at Transcom Group, were accused in a case filed at Dhaka’s Gulshan Police Station on March 21, 2024. At that time, Gulshan Police Station OC Mazharul Islam announced that he would start investigating the case. Later, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) was given the responsibility of investigating the case. It is worth noting that on June 16, 2023, Arshad Waliur Rahman was found dead in his bedroom at his house in Gulshan, Dhaka. Later, while taking him to the hospital, the doctor said that he was brought dead. On March 31, 2024, the High Court ordered Simin Rahman and three others in this case to surrender within 72 hours of returning to the country.
