A young man lost his life due to online gambling addiction

A young man named Asif Ali (20), who lost money while playing online gambling in Kaunia, Rangpur, has died. He died while undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital on Friday (September 12) night. Asif Ali is the son of Jahidul Islam of Balapara Shanto Bazar area of ​​the upazila. Quoting his family, Kaunia Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Braj Gopal Karmakar said that Asif had secretly become addicted to online gambling. He used to gamble by borrowing money from different people. He also said that Asif had taken Tk 16,500 from his father to repay the loans he had borrowed from different people. But instead of repaying the loans with that money, he gambled online again. He became depressed after losing in gambling. At one point, at around 7 pm on Thursday (September 11), he fell ill after consuming pesticide on the banks of the Teesta River in the Bhanga area of ​​Panjo in the upazila. Upon receiving information from his relatives, his relatives rescued him and admitted him to Kaunia Upazila Health Complex. When his condition deteriorated, he was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital that night. Asif died while undergoing treatment there on Friday evening. SI Braj Gopal Karmakar said that a case of accidental death has been filed at the police station following the application of the deceased’s father.
