A sailor died in an oil tanker fire at Chittagong port
One person has died while undergoing treatment in the fire incident on the state-owned oil tanker ‘Banglar Sourave’ at Chittagong port.
Besides, 48 sailors and crew were rescued alive from the ship.
A well tanker at outer anchor caught fire at 12 midnight on Friday. After a four-hour effort, the navy, coast guard and port authorities brought the fire under control around 3 pm.
It is known that the oil tanker Bangla at the outer anchorage of Chittagong port was suddenly shaken by a loud noise in the middle of the night. The sleeping sailors awoke to find the front of the ship on fire. The sailors began to gather at the back of the ship. The captain contacted the Navy, Coast Guard and Port Authority for rescue assistance.
Several panicked sailors jumped into the sea before the rescue team arrived. Some were rescued by fishing trawlers. Later, Navy and Coast Guard personnel rescued 48 sailors from the ship. But a sailor named Sadek died while undergoing treatment.
