A businessman was hacked to death at the gate of his house in Narsingdi

A businessman was hacked to death at the gate of his house in Palash upazila of Narsingdi on his way back after closing his shop. The incident took place at around 9 pm yesterday (January 5) in Sultanpur of Charsindur union of the upazila. However, it was not immediately confirmed who committed the incident.
It is learnt that the deceased has been identified as Sarat Chakraborty alias Mani (40). He is the son of Mohan Chakraborty of Uttar Sadharanchar village of Sadharanchar union of neighboring Shibpur upazila. Apart from running his ancestral grocery shop in Charsindur market of Palash upazila, he also used to hire excavators.
According to the police and relatives, Sarat Chakraborty has another house in Sultanpur village, where he used to keep some rabbits. He was returning to that house after closing his shop at around 9 pm yesterday. As soon as he reached the gate of the house, someone hit him on the back of the head with a sharp weapon. When he fell to the ground covered in blood, the miscreants quickly fled from there.
At one point, some locals came forward after hearing Sharat’s screams. Sharat was immediately rescued and taken to the Palash Upazila Health Complex. There, the doctor on duty at the emergency department declared him dead. Meanwhile, on receiving the news, relatives and family members went to the hospital and identified the body. After preparing the autopsy report there, the police sent his body to the morgue of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
Abdullah Al Mamun, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of the Palash Upazila Health Complex, said that the person (Sharat) was brought to the hospital dead. He suffered a two-and-a-half-inch wound from a sharp weapon on the back of the head. It is believed that he died due to excessive bleeding. Shahed Al Mamun, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Palash Police Station, said that the police have started an investigation. He said, “Those involved in the murder will be brought to justice soon.”
