90 percent of people want local government elections first.
About 90 percent of the country’s people want local government elections before the national elections. Commission head Badiul Alam Majumder gave this information at a press conference organized at the office of the Electoral Reform Commission on Wednesday at the National Parliament premises.
He said, “This information was found in a survey conducted by the Reform Commission on 46,000 citizens. The survey was conducted on behalf of the commission by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics.”
Badiul Alam said, “At the moment, we do not have any union councils or local governments. Due to which the people are being deprived of civic services.”
The commission led by Badiul Alam has recommended the formation of another permanent commission called the Local Government Commission.
