9 injured in truck accident on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway
At least 9 people were injured in a freight truck accident on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Srinagar upazila of Munshiganj due to dense fog. The accident occurred on the slope of the railover bridge in the Srinagar section of the Mawamukhi Expressway at around 3:30 pm on Sunday (December 28). A team from Srinagar Fire Station quickly reached the spot and started rescue work after receiving information about the accident.
The injured were rescued and first taken to the Srinagar Upazila Health Complex. Later, as the injured’s home is in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur district, they were shifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment. Although the accident closed the expressway for about an hour and a half due to the accident, traffic movement normalized by dawn with the efforts of the Fire Service and Highway Police.
The Fire Service said that the truck involved in the accident was heading towards Bhanga from Comilla. The truck was carrying decorations, goods and workers returning from a fair in Comilla. Srinagar Fire Service Station Officer Dewan Azad Hossain said, “Due to dense fog, the driver could not see the road ahead clearly and lost control. As a result, the truck hit the railing and overturned. Nine people in the truck, including the driver, were seriously injured in the accident.”
