9 Awami League activists arrested for participating in Jhatika procession
The Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) has arrested 9 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations on charges of participating in Jhatika processions and planning sabotage in the capital. They were arrested in a drive in different areas of the capital from last Saturday evening to Sunday morning.
They are: Dhaka South City Corporation Ward No. 10 Swechchhasebak League President Moksedur Rahman Molla Kishore (47), former president of Srinagar Thana Awami Swechchhasebak League in Munshiganj Enamul Huda Lalu (60), former member of Ward No. 9 of Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami Jubo League and publicity secretary of Motijheel Thana Awami Matsyajibi League Abdul Gaffar (56), Lalbagh Thana Ward No. 24 Awami League President Baharul Islam Titu (46), Mirpur Thana Chhatra League activist Saiful Islam Lyon (24), Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League’s former information and research secretary and forest and environment secretary Naeem Noman (60), Demra Thana Jubo League organizing secretary Humayun Kabir Rajan (42), Bhola Sadar Upazila Charsamaiya Union Awami League President and Union Parishad Chairman Mohiuddin Matabbar (43), and Bhatara Thana Chhatra League’s former vice-president and Tangail district branch Sheikh Russell National Youth Council Vice President Sikder Sohel Hazari (30).
A press release from the DMP’s media wing on Sunday said that various departments of the DB had conducted the operation in a coordinated manner. They were arrested from Tejgaon Industrial Area, Kalabagan, Lalbagh, Mirpur, Pallabi, Demra, Dhanmondi and Kafrul areas from Saturday evening to night.
The DMP also said that the arrested persons are accused of destabilizing the law and order situation in the capital, creating panic in the public through sudden processions and filing cases in various police stations. Legal action is under process against them.
