88 cases filed in minority-related incidents, 70 arrested.
A total of 88 cases have been filed in minority-related incidents from August 5 to October 22 this year and 70 people involved in the incidents have been arrested.
This information was given by the Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam at a regular press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy on Tuesday evening.
Referring to recent attacks on minorities in Sunamganj, Narsingdi, Chittagong and Dhaka, he said that the number of arrests and cases will increase if new incidents occur in those places. Detailed information on these cases will be announced later.
At the press briefing, the Chief Advisor’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder said that the committee formed to review the applications of government officials who were deprived of promotions during the regime of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina submitted its report to the Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus today.
He said that although the committee was asked to submit its report within a 90-day deadline, it submitted the report with recommendations to the Chief Advisor before the deadline.
Azad said the committee received 1,540 applications from government officials and after examining them, it recommended the promotion of 764 officials with retrospective effect.
On September 16, the government formed a five-member committee under the Ministry of Public Administration, convened by former Finance Secretary Zakir Ahmed Khan, to review the applications of current and retired officials who were deprived of promotion in various ways from 2009 to August 4, 2024.
Deputy Press Secretary to the Principal Advisor Apurba Jahangir was also present at the briefing.
