8 killed in Pakistan wedding blast
At least eight people, including the bride and groom, were killed in a gas cylinder explosion at a wedding hall in Islamabad, Pakistan. The newlyweds were among them, AP reported, citing local media. Xinhua News Agency, citing local media, reported that seven others were injured in the explosion. Local authorities said that the incident took place at midnight on Sunday (January 11). The entire area was filled with screams.
Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon said that the explosion took place inside a residential building during a wedding ceremony. It spread panic in the area and damaged nearby buildings. Fifteen people trapped in the building have been rescued. According to rescue officials, at least four nearby houses were damaged in the explosion. The rescue operation is over. The injured have been sent to hospital for treatment.
Islamabad police said that a detailed investigation will be conducted to find out the exact cause of the explosion. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed deep condolences to the deceased. He said that a full investigation into the incident should be completed quickly. At the same time, he directed the authorities to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured.
