70-80% of corruption in government institutions is related to procurement – ACC Chairman

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen said that a large part of the major corruption that we talk about in government institutions occurs in procurement. It is seen that 70-80 percent of corruption in government institutions is related to the procurement policy, i.e. PPR 2006 and PPR 2008. If we pay attention to this, it is possible to reduce corruption in various government institutions to a large extent.

Dr. Momen said these things to journalists after inaugurating a 15-day training program on government procurement policy for ACC officials at the Engineering Staff College in Gazaria, Munshiganj yesterday morning.

The ACC Chairman also said that you have received news of numerous corruption cases in procurement of various government institutions. Some goods were purchased at unusually high prices, some were purchased at low quality, which cannot be used now. This training program is to enhance the skills of ACC officials in these matters.

Responding to a question whether the ACC will take any measures to bring back people who have fled abroad due to corruption, Mohammad Abdul Momen said that it is a long process. However, we will try to bring them back to the country and face justice.

The special guest of the event, Director General (Training and Information Technology) of the organization, Akhter Hossain, said, “Apart from stopping corruption, we must pay the most attention so that no innocent person is harassed.”

The event was presided over by Engineers Institution Bangladesh (IEB) President Engineer Mohammad Rezaul Islam Riju.
