7 shops gutted in late-night fire in Monpura
Seven shops and a warehouse in the market were gutted in a late-night fire in Bhola’s Monpura. The affected traders have claimed a loss of around 2.5 crore taka. Later, members of the Fire Service and Navy reached the spot and brought the fire under control. The fire broke out in the middle lane of Banglabazar in Uttar Sakuchia Union of the upazila at around 1.30 am on Saturday (February 7). The affected traders said that a large amount of goods including groceries, electronics, cash and gold ornaments were gutted in the fire.
Eyewitnesses said that fire was first seen burning in Sumon Swarnakar’s jewellery shop late at night. Within a short while, the fire spread to 6 more shops nearby. Sumon’s jewellery shop, Sajeeb’s electronics shop, Sharif Dhali’s grocery shop and a warehouse of goods, Maqsud’s fake bottle shop and warehouse and Abbas Talukdar’s grocery shop were completely burnt down.
After inspecting the scene, it was learned that gold worth about 8 lakh taka in Suman’s jewelry shop, goods worth about 6 lakh taka in the electronics shop, groceries and cash worth 80-90 lakh taka in Sharif Dhali’s shop, about 50 lakh taka in Maqsud’s shop, and goods worth 70-80 lakh taka in Abbas Talukder’s grocery shop were damaged.
