7 injured in clash between two sides over patient sharing at Dhaka Medical College (DMC)
Two factions of a broker gang clashed repeatedly over control of ICU patient sharing and ambulance business at Dhaka Medical College (DMC). At least seven people from both sides were injured in the clash.
On Wednesday (September 24) night, a clash broke out between Shahadat and Billal’s factions, first in front of the emergency department and later in front of the hospital’s Class IV Employees Association office.
The injured are Shahadat’s faction members Naushad, Anisur Rahman, Ripu and Riaz, and Billal’s faction members Emon, Badhon and Suman. Of these, Emon suffered a serious head injury from a sharp weapon and Badhon’s hand was broken.
Hospital employees said that the clash broke out over control of ICU patient sharing and ambulance business. First, Naushad was beaten, then members of Shahadat’s faction attacked back. Emon suffered a serious head injury from a sharp weapon and Badhon’s hand was broken.
Ward Master of DMCH Md. Shipon said that when people supporting Shahadat tried to transfer the patient from Dhaka Medical College to a private hospital, some people including Emon stopped them. Angered by this incident, people supporting Shahadat attacked them with sharp weapons in front of the association’s house.
In this context, Shahadat said that Billal, Sumon, Nasir, Emon, Dulal and Shafin and some others severely beat Naushad in front of the emergency department at night. When Anisur Rahman, owner of Dhaka International Hospital, went to the spot and inquired about the matter, a scuffle broke out between the two parties and at one point it turned into a fight.
In this context, Inspector in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s police outpost Md. Faruk said that there was a clash between the two parties in front of the emergency department and outside the hospital. Several people were injured in this. The exact cause of the incident is being investigated.
