    7 Awami League leaders including former minister’s son-chairman arrested.

    Law enforcement agencies have arrested 7 Awami League leaders, including the son of former Labor and Employment Minister MA Mannan. Cases have been filed against them on various charges, including attacks on anti-discrimination movement and killing of students and the public.

    Chittagong: Police have arrested Abdul Latif Tipu, a member of the executive committee of the Chittagong Metropolitan Awami League, in a case filed under the Explosives Act. He is the son of former Labor and Employment Minister MA Mannan. His other brother, Md. Didarul Alam, is the general secretary of the Metropolitan Jubo League. He was arrested from a house in Kazi Deuri Battery Goli at around 2 am last Sunday. When he was produced in the court of Chittagong Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Mizanur Rahman yesterday afternoon, the judge ordered him to be sent to jail.

    Savar: Arif Khan alias Tunda Arif, the accused in the case of killing of students and the public during the anti-discrimination movement in Savar, has been arrested. A team of detective police arrested him during a raid in Savar municipality on Sunday night. Tunda Arif is the son of Rafiq Uddin Khan Kachi of Anandapur Mohalla in the municipality. There are nine cases against Arif alias Tunda Arif, including murder and extortion. Arif was known as the terror of Savar municipality during the previous Awami League government. Tunda Arif was arrested on March 4, 2021 in a case of attempted murder of police constable Mohammad Rabbi Hossain. Meanwhile, Awami League leader and former chairman of Birulia Union Parishad Saidur Rahman Sujan was arrested on charges of directly indiscriminately firing on students and the public with weapons during the August Revolution. A team of the detective department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested him in a raid at a flat in Uttara in the capital. Saidur Rahman Sujan’s family confirmed the matter.

    Rajarhat (Kurigram): Rajarhat Police Station arrested Taijul Islam, Chairman of Bidyananda UP of Rajarhat Upazila, on Sunday afternoon and sent him to jail. Taijul Islam was elected as the chairman of Bidyananda Union Parishad with the boat symbol during the Awami League government. He went into hiding after August 5. Locals said that Taijul Islam had been spreading the party’s influence during the Awami League government and was carrying out various misdeeds. A case of vote rigging is ongoing against him. Meanwhile, Abdus Salam, chairman of Chakirpasha Union of Rajarhat Upazila, was arrested from Rajarhat Bazar yesterday afternoon. He is the former president of the Upazila Chhatra League and the son of Osman Ali of Pirmamud village of that union. He won the UP election with the boat symbol during the last Awami League government.

    Kishoreganj: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-14 arrested Awami League leader Al Amin in connection with the attack on students and the public during the anti-discrimination movement in Nikli Upazila. He was arrested from Sector No. 11 of Uttara Paschim Police Station in the capital Dhaka on Sunday afternoon. He was handed over to Nikli Police Station at night. Al Amin is the son of Golap Mia of Purbagram in Nikli Upazila of Kishoreganj. He has been serving as the Agriculture and Cooperative Affairs Secretary of Nikli Upazila Awami League.

    Ulipur (Kurigram): Police arrested former Upazila Awami League president Moti Shiuli for picking up and beating students during the anti-discrimination student movement in Ulipur. He was arrested yesterday afternoon from in front of the main gate of Maharani Swarnamoyi School and College in the municipal town. On July 18, leaders and activists of Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League picked up students of the quota reform movement from in front of Maharani Swarnamoyi School and College and Masjidul Huda in Ulipur and beat them severely with sticks, iron rods, hockey sticks, ramda, knives and indigenous weapons. In this incident, a student named Mosabbir Hossain filed a case with the police station on November 21, naming 44 people and against 180 unknown people.
