6 injured in Jamaat-BNP clash in Nandigram, Bogra
A clash took place between BNP and Jamaat in Bogra-4 constituency over the beating of a July Fighter, a beard marker activist from a paddy sheaf procession in Nandigram. At least 6 people from both sides were injured. At that time, a BNP leader’s house was attacked and vandalized. The clash took place in Parshun village of Thaltamjagram union of Nandigram upazila at midnight on Monday (February 9).
President of the Workers’ Welfare Federation Bogra district branch and member of the election management committee of Jamaat-Islami in Bogra-4 constituency, Manjurul Islam said that at around 9:30 pm yesterday, July Fighter Abdullahel Ghalib (22) was taking a motorcycle through the road of Bhuskur village. At that time, Ghalib was severely beaten from a paddy sheaf procession. Due to this, tension prevailed among Jamaat workers. After this incident, BNP workers of Parshun village picked up Jamaat workers Faruk and Bellal and detained them at the house of Union BNP President Masud Rana and beat them up. On receiving this news, Jamaat leaders and workers went to Masud Rana’s house in groups. A clash broke out while trying to rescue the two detained workers. BNP leader Masud Rana, Jamaat workers Faruk, Bellal and Aminul are among the 4-5 people injured in the incident. The injured have been admitted to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, BNP candidate Mosharraf Hossain claimed that BNP workers detained two Jamaat members of Parshun village while distributing money among voters and informed the police. After the police arrived, Jamaat leaders and workers attacked BNP leader Masud Rana’s house in front of them, vandalized the house, beat Masud Rana, seriously injured him and kidnapped their worker.
He said that tension prevailed in the area over the incident. Nandigram Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman said, “The fight started before the police arrived. However, no evidence has been found regarding the allegations of money being distributed among voters.” The OC said that both sides are preparing to file a complaint over last night’s fight.
