6 injured in Jamaat-BNP clash in Jhenaidah

A clash occurred between Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP workers in Maheshpur, Jhenaidah. The incident took place on Tuesday (October 28) at around 6 pm during a Jamaat public meeting in Jadavpur Bazar of the upazila. At least six people from both sides were injured in the incident. The upazila Jamaat has filed a written complaint with the Maheshpur police station regarding the incident.
In the written complaint, Ashraful, son of Afsar Ali, Chafar Ali, son of Montu Mia, Sabuj Mia, Saidul Islam, son of Rezaul Hasan Ali, son of Mozammel, Said and son of Irshad Member, Habibur Rahman have been named as accused.
According to local sources, after the mass meeting, an argument broke out between Jamaat and BNP workers after Maghrib prayers. At one point, both sides got into a clash with sticks. At least six people from both sides were injured in the incident. The injured were rescued by locals and admitted to the Maheshpur Upazila Health Complex.
Maheshpur Upazila Jamaat Ameer Faruk Ahmed said, “After the mass meeting at Jadavpur Bazar, our leaders and activists were going to offer Maghrib prayers. At that time, BNP activists attacked. Several of us were injured. I have filed a written complaint with Maheshpur Police Station.
Maheshpur Upazila BNP President Mehedi Hasan Roni said, “I am in Dhaka. Jamaat activists beat up some of our activists in Jadavpur Bazar. I don’t know anything more than that.” Maheshpur Police Station OC Nazrul Islam told us, “A complaint has been received regarding the incident. Legal action will be taken after investigation.”
