6 flights unable to land due to dense fog
Six flights could not land on time due to the dense fog, as the runway at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka could not be seen clearly. Of these, three flights were forced to turn around from Dhaka and land at Kolkata International Airport. The other three landed at Sylhet Airport.
This situation continued from 2:30 am on Sunday to 9 am on Monday. Group Captain Mohammad Kamrul Imlam, Executive Director of Shahjalal Airport, confirmed the matter.
He said that due to the dense fog, several flights were diverted to Kolkata. Along with this, three were sent to Sylhet Osmani Airport. However, flight operations returned to normal after 10 am.
Shahjalal International Airport authorities said that two Kuwait Airways flights from Kuwait City and a Salam Air flight from Muscat, Oman could not land in Dhaka at midnight and went to Kolkata. Later, they landed in Dhaka after 9 am.
Meanwhile, around 16 flights could not land in Dhaka on time from midnight to 9 am due to dense fog. They include Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ Dubai, Muscat, Rome, Jeddah flights, Emirates Airlines’ Dubai, Gulf Air’s Bahrain, US-Bangla Airlines’ Dubai, Doha, Sharjah, Jeddah, Singapore, Druk Air’s flights from Paro and several other routes.
Airport sources also said that some traffic has been created on the airport’s runway as many flights are waiting to take off and land at the same time.
