5 vehicles collide on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in dense fog

Five vehicles collided head-on on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj’s Kamarkhola due to dense fog. At least 20 people were injured.

The accident occurred at around 7:45 am on Monday. This caused severe traffic congestion on the expressway.

Police said that first a large covered van hit the back of a pickup truck. Then a passenger bus of Imat Paribahan hit the covered van, causing the vehicles to slow down. A short distance away, a truck hit another bus of Purbava Paribahan, causing five vehicles to collide in an instant. This disrupted traffic on the Dhaka-bound lane and caused a long traffic jam.

Munshiganj Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Shafiqul Islam said that the Fire Service ambulances rescued the injured in batches and sent them to the hospital.

Confirming the incident, Hasara Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Quader Jilani said that the truck fled after the accident. However, work is underway to rescue the remaining four vehicles.
