5-hour power outage due to youth
A mentally unstable youth named Shankar Bepari Bahadur climbed a 340-foot-high electricity tower in Swarupkathi, Pirojpur. As a result, the entire upazila was without power for 5 hours. The incident took place on Tuesday (August 26) afternoon. After hundreds of attempts by the Nesarabad Fire Service failed, the mentally unstable youth was rescued with the efforts of four local youths. The mentally unstable youth is named Shankar Bepari Bahadur (38). He is the son of the deceased Nikunja Bepari of Durgakathi village in ward number 3 of Samudaykathi union of the upazila. He has been rescued and handed over to his family. Locals said that two high towers have been built on both sides of the electricity connection of the Sandhya River adjacent to the army camp in ward number 7 of Swarupkathi municipality of the upazila. Through which tower the main electricity line of the upazila is drawn. In the morning, a mentally unstable youth fell down from the tower. He unknowingly climbed the tower. At that time, locals saw him and asked him to come down, so he slowly climbed up the tower. By noon, the Upazila Electricity Department was informed and cut off the power supply. After receiving the information, the Nesarabad Fire Service went to the spot and tried to bring him down but failed. Later, the mentally unstable young man was rescued with the efforts of some local youths. The youths who participated in the rescue were: Md. Shah Alam alias Kalu Mia, son of Md. Hafizur Rahman of Kaukhali Upazila, Md. Ripon Mia, son of Md. Imam Hossain of the same Upazila, Md. Kalam Hossain, son of Md. Jawan Ali Hawlader of Jagatpatti village of Nesarabad Upazila, Md. Rubel Hossain, son of Md. Quddus Mia of Kamarkathi village. The mentally unstable young man’s mother, Alo Rani Bepari, said, “My son suddenly fell ill as a child and started behaving abnormally. Since he is mentally ill, I always kept an eye on him. But when I suddenly could not find him at home in the morning, I searched a lot.” Later, I came to know about the matter through the police of Nesarabad Police Station. Now I am free from worries after getting my son. Nesarabad Fire Service Station In-charge Md. Monirul Islam said, after receiving the news, he was brought down to the spot after a long 5 hours with the efforts of some local youths. He was taken to Nesarabad Police Station. Nesarabad Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Boni Amin said, ‘The mentally unstable youth has been handed over to his family.’ Nesarabad Rural Electricity Office Deputy General Manager (DGM) Md. Jane Alam said, we had shut down the power supply for 5 hours to bring him down. Since the main line passed through the tower, the power line was cut, and the power connection was disconnected in the entire upazila. There was chaos there. Nesarabad Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Zahidul Islam said, ‘After knowing about the matter, I came there. He was rescued with the efforts of some brave people. A life was saved due to their bravery. The youth who participated in the rescue operation were called to the office and awarded.
