418 killed in road accidents in July
418 people lost their lives in road accidents in the country last July. And 856 were injured. This information was given in a report by the non-governmental organization Road Safety Foundation published on Tuesday (August 19). The report said that a total of 443 road accidents occurred last month. Of these, 131 were motorcycle accidents, which is 29.57 percent of the total accidents. 109 people died in motorcycle accidents, which is 26.8 percent of the total deaths. After motorcycles, the highest number of deaths occurred in three-wheeler (CNG, auto-rickshaw, auto-van) accidents, where 108 people died. In addition, 41 bus passengers, 30 people in truck-pickup, 20 people in private car-microbus and ambulance, 12 people in locally made vehicles (Nasimon, Bhatavti, Pakhivan, Mahindra) (2.87 percent) and 6 people in bicycle-rickshaws lost their lives. During this period, six people died in four boat accidents and 18 people died in 21 rail accidents. Regional statistics show that the highest number of accidents occurred in Dhaka division. 105 people died in 117 accidents in this division alone. In the capital Dhaka, 19 people were killed and 38 injured in 26 road accidents in July. The report mentioned the main causes of road accidents as defective vehicles, reckless speeding, incompetent and sick drivers, long working hours, slow-moving vehicles on highways, reckless motorcycle riding by young people, public disobedience to traffic laws, poor traffic management and extortion in the transport sector.
