In Noakhali Sadar Upazila, the locals handed over four armed men to the joint forces by beating them up.
The arrested are Sahid (43), Jamal (43), Javed (28) and Riyad (28), residents of East Chramtua Union.
When the four injured persons were admitted to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital, one named Sahid died while undergoing treatment.
They were arrested from East Chramtua Union on Saturday afternoon.
It is known that a person named Mo Abdus Sahid of East Chramtua Union has illegal arms and ammunition. He is also a wholesaler of various drugs. He has three other associates with him. When such news spread, the local people arrested them and beat them up and informed the police and the army.
On receiving the information, 16 Field Regiment Artillery Captain Iftekhar Ahmed led a joint operation with two army pickups and a police pickup. At that time they were arrested with a shotgun. All four people were admitted to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital with serious injuries. Saheed died at around 8 pm.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sudharam Model Police Station Mir Jahidul Haque Rony confirmed the arrest of 4 people and the death of one person. He said, “Locals have beaten up four people.” On receiving information, a joint operation by the police and the army rescued them and admitted them to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital. One person died while undergoing treatment. Legal action will be taken in this regard.
