4 BNP leaders expelled in Gazipur, tension in the area
Four leaders of Gazipur Metropolitan BNP have been expelled from the party on charges of violating party discipline, including demanding donations. The expelled leaders are former joint convener of Gazipur Metropolitan BNP Rakib Uddin Sarkar Pappu, Gazipur Metropolitan Volunteer Party leader Abdul Halim Mollah, former member of Gazipur Metropolitan BNP Ziaul Hasan Swapan (GS Swapan) and Tongi East Thana Volunteer Party member secretary Sirajul Islam Sathi. On Sunday (July 6), a press release signed by BNP’s joint office secretary Advocate Md. Taiful Islam Tipu announced the decision on BNP’s verified Facebook page. The release mentioned that the above-mentioned leaders were involved in various activities that were against the party’s ideology, discipline and unity. They have tarnished the party’s image and taken a stand against discipline. For this, they have been expelled from all levels of BNP, including primary membership. Meanwhile, the news of the expulsion has created a huge stir in the politics of Gazipur Metropolitan BNP. Many party leaders and activists see this decision as positive and believe that the central leadership has taken a firm step to establish internal discipline and policies of the party. However, some have also called the matter a ‘unilateral decision’ – which they believe may further inflame the internal division of the party.
