351 people killed in Pakistan floods in two days

The death toll from flash floods and landslides caused by torrential rains in northwest Pakistan has exceeded 350. At least 328 people have died in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone. According to a report by Geo News, many people are still missing in the floods. Authorities fear that severe floods and landslides have caused extensive damage to houses, shops and infrastructure in Buner, Swat, Mansehra, Bajaur and Batagram. Rescue operations are ongoing in the affected areas. As a result, the death toll may rise further. The report said that in addition to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 12 people have died in Gilgit-Baltistan and 11 in Azad Kashmir. The provincial rescue agency told AFP that about 2,000 rescue workers are engaged in retrieving bodies from the rubble and conducting relief operations in nine affected districts. Residents of Beshantri village in Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province said that the situation was so dire that no one could be found in the village even for burials. People from neighboring villages came to help. They said that almost every family has reported casualties. According to the provincial disaster management authority, Buner, Swat, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla and Batagram have been the most affected. According to the rescue agency, thousands of people have been affected in Beshantri village in Buner district alone. There are no houses, no shelters, and the roads have also been destroyed. Rescue workers are struggling to work due to the darkness of the night and power outages. Hospitals are facing an extreme crisis due to the crowd of bodies and injured. The provincial government has already launched emergency relief operations. Rs 50 crore has been allocated for the affected districts. Rs 15 crore has been allocated for Buner district alone. Relief materials are being sent by helicopter to remote areas. However, according to locals, government assistance is still insufficient compared to the damage.
