3 Professors including VC of premier university resign under pressure.
In the face of student protests, the Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong’s private Premier University, Professor Dr. Anupam Sen, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Kazi Shamim Sultana and Treasurer Toufiq Sayeed have resigned.
On Friday night, the university’s Registrar Mohammad Iftekhar Monir confirmed their resignations.
He said, “Vice-Chancellor Anupam Sen has submitted his resignation citing old age. In addition, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer have resigned citing personal reasons.”
Meanwhile, after the news of their resignations reached the university, the protesting students held a victory procession. They marched from the university’s GEC campus to GEC Road.
Earlier, the students had been protesting since December 4 demanding the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor. But when he did not resign, they locked down three campuses and declared a complete shutdown.
At that time, the students complained, “Everyone in the entire proctorial body, including the VC, worked as friends of the Awami League. They were sitting on these chairs to do the government’s bidding. We had demanded to have our campus in one place several times before. But they did not implement our words by showing the power of former Education Minister Nawfel.’
Incidentally, after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 in the face of the student uprising, there were cases of forced resignations of VCs and others of various universities across the country, but the exception was the private Premier University of Chittagong. At that time, a section of the students demanded the resignation of the VC, while a large section was in favor of Dr. Anupam Sen.
