3 members of the same family burnt in gas cylinder explosion
Khadija Akhter (30), her husband Md. Mahmudul (36) and Ja Shiuli Akhter (40) were burnt in a gas cylinder leakage explosion while making sehri at night in Kachua, Chandpur. The accident occurred at around 4 am today, Wednesday (February 25) at the Bakoul house in Hossainpur village of Kachua South Union. Administrative Officer (Additional Duty) of Kachua South Union Md. Nasir Hossain confirmed this information.
It is learnt that all three of the burnt victims are currently undergoing treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. Mahmudul’s younger brother Hasan said, “Around 4 am, his sister-in-law Khadija Akhter went to the kitchen to make sehri. A gas cylinder leakage occurred from the east. The explosion occurred when she tried to light the stove. While Khadija was being rescued, Mahmudul and Shiuli’s bodies caught fire.”
He said that they were rescued from their homes at around 5 am and taken to the Kachua Upazila Health Complex. They were given first aid there and taken to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute by ambulance. The injured are currently being treated.
Assistant Professor Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman, resident physician at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, told the media that three people were brought from Chandpur at around 8:30 am with burns. Among them, Khadija Akter has 35 percent burns, Mahmudul has 4 percent burns and Shiuli Akter has 2 percent burns. Among them, Khadija has been admitted to the emergency department and the other two are being kept under observation.
In this regard, Kachua Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Borhan Uddin said that initially it is believed that the explosion started from a gas line leakage. If any written complaint is filed by the family, legal action will be taken after investigation. The matter is being looked into seriously.
